Attic Ventilation is important!

Reducing the peak temperatures of your attic in the summertime will make your attic insulation more effective, provide noticeable comfort improvements, and reduce your energy bills.

For the best results, a balanced system of intake (e.g., soffit vents) and exhaust (e.g., ridge vents) is ideal. This ensures that cool air is drawn in while hot air escapes, maintaining proper airflow throughout the attic.

Here are the most common and effective ways to ventilate an attic:

  • Soffit Vents

    Installed under the eaves of the roof, soffit vents allow cool air to enter the attic from below, pushing warm air upward and out.
  • Ridge Vents

    Installed along the roof’s peak, ridge vents allow warm air to escape from the attic as cooler air enters from below, such as through soffit vents.

  • Gable Vents

    Installed in the walls of the attic at the gable ends, these vents allow hot air to escape horizontally.

  • Electric or Solar-Powered Fans

    Installed on the roof or gable end actively pull hot air out of the attic.

  • Turbine Vents

    Wind-powered turbines that spin and pull warm air out of the attic when there’s a breeze.

  • Roof Vents - Box Vents

    Static, non-mechanical vents installed evenly across the roof to allow warm air to escape.

  • Whole House Fans

    Large fans mounted in the ceiling that pull air from inside the house into the attic, forcing hot air out through attic vents.
